Which Historical Figure Was the Mark Zuckerberg of Their Time?

Purely on the level of physical appearance, Mark Zuckerberg is unprecedented; I doubt he’s ever once heard the phrase “you know who you look like?” unless the follow-up was “an unfinished police sketch left out in the rain.” But if we’re talking about Zuckerberg the man—or, more precisely, the nihilistically…Read more...

Which is Better for You? SSD vs HDD

What’s the difference between SSDs and HDDs? Solid-state drives and hard disk drives are similar in their physical specifications, but they store data very differently. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of drive, and deciding on which type is right for you comes down to how you use your computer. [embed]https://youtu.be/Rq7E7i-Ac3U[/embed] HDD The technology behind hard disk drives is well known and well-tested. Hard disk drives have been around for more than 50 years, steadily increasing their storage capacity and decreasing their physical size. HDDs rely on spinning disks, or platters, to read and write data.   How hard drives work Hard disk drives consist of one or more magnetically sensitive platters, an actuator arm with a read/write head on it for each platter, and a motor to…

StorageReview Podcast #46: Caitlin Gordon, Dell Technologies

Caitlin Gordon joins Brian on this podcast to talk all things Dell EMC PowerStore with a little Brady/Gronk mixed in. PowerStore is an entirely new platform for Dell EMC that is intended to take over as the lead product in the all-flash midmarket space. The clean sheet design allowed Dell EMC to take the best of their existing lines like XtremIO and SC Storage to create a platform that is actually quite unique. PowerStore scales both up and out, and has the ability to run apps natively on the box, which adds a little flair of HCI to the equation. (more…)

GIGABYTE R181-2A0 Review

The GIGABYTE R181-2A0 is a 1U server built around the second generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The second gen Xeon CPUs bring their set of benefits to the server that contain the usual suspects of Optane DC Memory support, higher CPU frequencies and the performance that can come with that, faster DDR4 speed, and Intel Deep Learning Boost. The server is super flexible and is aimed toward an application connected to shared storage, or perhaps HPC use cases. (more…)
